Christmas Morning French Toast Casserole

Submitted by: June Shockley
This is the best brunch dish ever.

On the "night before Christmas" prepare this casserole and then on Christmas morning just pop it in to bake.
Ingredients and Instructions:
Slice 2 loaves of French bread into approx. 2" thick slices.  In a buttered 9x13  casserole pan lean them against each other, making two rows.
Combine the following and pour over the bread:
6 eggs,
2 cups of milk
1 cup half and half
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/8 teaspoon nutmeg
1/8 teaspoon cinnamon
Cover and refrigerate overnight.  (Take out 1 stick of butter to soften overnight.  You will need it for the topping in the morning.

In the morning combine: ( I put this topping in a zip lock bag and just squish it all around in order to mix it thoroughly.  Kids like to do this part.)
1 stick softened butter
1 cup brown sugar
2 Tablespoons dark Karo syrup
1 cup chopped pecans
Once the topping is made I slather in between each piece of bread.  Any leftover I put on top.

Bake 45 minutes at 350, if you use glass 325.
Now go open those presents, because Santa Claus has been here!
This recipe was given to me by Mrs. Claus.  It will feed 12 elves or 1 SANTA.
