Nana's Pioneer Apple Pie

Nana’s Pioneer Apple Pie

Peel and cut in to bite size chunks
(All good apple pies contain e at least 3 varieties of apples)
3 Golden Delicious apples
2 Grannie Smith apples
4 McIntosh apples

~Drizzle about ¼ cup dark molasses.
Stir until well coated
~Add about a1/2 cup apple spice
mix, maybe a little more..
Stir until well coated
~Pour mixture into unbaked 9” pie
crust.  (See Pie Crust Recipe in PIE section) Mound up a little in middle.

Dutch Apple Topping
In small bowl mix together
2 cup quick oats
1 cup dark brown sugar
1 stick melted butter

~Place crumble mixture evenly
over top of pie.
~I like to drizzle a very fine swirly
pattern of molasses on top for show.

Place pie plate on jelly roll pan to
prevent drips in the oven.
Bake at 350 for about 1 ¼  hours
Test apples with sharp fork to see
If  tender.  If not try baking about
10 minutes more.  If crust is getting
too dark cover crust with aluminum
foil.

This pie freezes well.
