Hint #1
Add a package of INSTANT pudding to a cake mix. (Just add the pudding powder to the mix, do NOT make up the pudding.) Just choose a compatible flavor such as chocolate pudding mix to chocolate cake mix, or butterscotch instnat pudding mix to a spice cake mix. You do not need to modify the recipe in any other way, just prepare and bake according to cake mix package instructions. This makes any cake you make very moist and taste like a cake from scratch
Hint #2
Whenever a cake recipe calls for water, do not add water, but instead add a compatible liquid in the same amount. For example, substitute strong coffee in any chocolate recipe, perhaps gingerale in a spice cake recipe, 7Up in a white cake, etc. I find this principle basically true for all cooking. I seldom add water to anything I cook. I always try to find a compatible fluid. For example add coke to a pot roast or lemon tea to chicken. You could add mint tea to any recipe where a mild mint flavor would be welcomed. Use your imagination and think outside the box.
