Dee's Almond Bars

Submitted by  June Shockley
My friend, Dee Fitzsimmons, served this to lucky visitors when her home was featured in the Kalamazoo Parade of Homes.  Cut into bite-size squares, it is a tasty alternative to a cookie.  I just love this great recipe.  In fact, I might just make a batch right now!

Dee's Almond Bars

1 cup butter
1 can almond paste (I like to use Solo brand Almond  Cake & Pastry Filling)
1 3/4 cup sugar
2 eggs
2 c flour

Use a 13 by 9 pan and bake at 300 degrees for 35-45 minutes (depending on the heat from your oven; for me, it is closer to 60 min. an inserted toothpick should come out clean).

While baking, mix

powdered sugar
almond extract
a small amount of milk
I GUESS ON AMOUNTS TO MAKE IT QUITE RUNNY, USING just a tiny bit of extract.
While bars still warm, drizzle over the top and sprinkle with nuts if desired (almond slivers)

It gets pretty firm when cool so I precut it (in bigger bar shapes usually)  It freezes well too, so enjoy!!!
